Why We Built Wild Van Guide (And What Makes It Different) ❓
You’ve heard what Wild Van Guide is. You’ve met the two people behind it.
Now we thought we’d show you a little more of what’s happening behind the scenes.
Because Wild Van Guide isn’t just a directory with a fancy name.
We’re trying to build something that genuinely makes life on the road easier.
From Frustration to Platform 🛠️
The original idea was simple:
Why do we need five different apps, endless Facebook searches and a dozen browser tabs to find the things we actually need on the road?
We didn’t want another app that did one thing.
We wanted somewhere you could go to find the places, people, businesses, events and stuff that make vanlife happen.
So that’s what we’re building.
🗺️ Find Places to Stay
Whether you’re looking for a pub stopover, a quiet campsite, an aire or somewhere that accepts car campers, we’re bringing different types of overnight locations together.
You’ll be able to search and filter based on the things that actually matter when you’re travelling.
Things like:
- Type of stopover
- Toilets and other facilities
- Water and waste disposal
- 2WD or 4×4 access
- Vehicle size and types allowed
- Quiet or social atmosphere
- Family-friendly options
🎪 Find Events & Gatherings
Vanlife isn’t just about where you park.
It’s about the people you meet when you get there.
Our Events Directory is being built to bring together everything from major camper shows and festivals to smaller meetups, campouts, convoy weekends and workshops.
You’ll be able to discover what’s happening, see what’s coming up and plan your adventures around the events you don’t want to miss.
And if you organise an event?
You’ll be able to submit it too.
Because the best events aren’t always the biggest ones.
Sometimes they’re the little gatherings you only hear about because somebody told a mate.
🔧 Find Businesses That Understand Vans
We’ve all been there.
Something goes wrong.
You need a welder, mechanic, electrician, solar expert or someone who understands your particular weird old van.
And suddenly you’re searching:
“Anyone know a good mechanic near…?”
Wild Van Guide is designed to make that search much easier.
We’re building a directory of businesses including:
- Van builders and converters
- Mechanics and garages
- Welders and fabrication specialists
- Solar and off-grid experts
- Parts and accessory suppliers
- Vanlife-friendly shops and brands
- Creative businesses supporting the scene
The aim isn’t to list absolutely everyone.
It’s to help people discover businesses that are relevant to the lifestyle.
🚐 Buy, Sell & Trade
The vanlife world is full of amazing vehicles, projects, parts and clever bits of kit.
Our Marketplace is designed specifically around that.
You’ll be able to find:
- Campervans
- Project vehicles
- Parts and spares
- Off-grid equipment
- Accessories
- Handmade vanlife gear
No unrelated cars.
No random household junk.
Just things that make sense to people who live, travel and build on four wheels.
🤝 Built With the Community
This is probably the bit we’re most excited about.
Wild Van Guide isn’t supposed to be a website you simply visit.
We want it to become something the community helps build.
Found a brilliant stopover?
Tell us.
Know a mechanic who went above and beyond?
Recommend them.
Run a vanlife event?
Add it.
Have a business that belongs in the guide?
List it.
The more people contribute, the more useful the platform becomes for everyone.
“We’re building this with the community, not just for the community.”
🧭 What’s Coming Next?
We’re still building, and there are plenty of ideas on the roadmap.
- ❤️ Bookmark your favourites
- 🗺️ Get Directions
- ⭐ Reviews and ratings
- 📱 Mobile friendly
- 🔎 Simple search and filtering
- 🌍 Expanding beyond the UK and Ireland
Some features will arrive sooner than others.
And, as anyone who has ever built a camper knows…
Plans have a habit of changing! 😆
We’ll keep listening to the community and prioritising the things that genuinely make life easier.
Why Does Any of This Matter? ❓
Because finding somewhere to stay, an event to go to, your next vehicle to buy or a business with awesome kit for sale, shouldn’t take hours to find.
Finding a mechanic shouldn’t mean asking ten Facebook groups.
Finding a great event shouldn’t depend on seeing one random post at exactly the right moment.
And discovering a brilliant small business shouldn’t be down to pure chance.
The information already exists.
We’re simply trying to make it easier to find.
That’s what Wild Van Guide is really about.
Not technology for the sake of technology.
Not another subscription.
Not another app you’ll forget you downloaded.
Just a better way to find the things you need, so you can spend less time searching and more time enjoying life on the road.
And This Is Only the Beginning 🚐
We’re building Wild Van Guide because we believe the vanlife community deserves a resource that reflects how brilliant, diverse and resourceful it actually is.
We’re still learning.
We’re still building.
We’re still adding listings.
And we’re still figuring some things out as we go.
But that’s part of the fun.
This is a journey, not a finished product.
And we’d love you to be part of it.
